Installing Flash Player 9 On 64Bit Linux (x86_64)

Someone said, Flash Player 9 doesn't run on 64 bit Linux, but sure it does... and you can install it, just follow the simple steps below.

If you can't view or open Flash charts or are not able to play Flash in your browser, follow the simple steps to install it on 64 bit Linux machines.

wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

tar -zxf install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins/

mv install_flash_player_9_linux/flashplayer.xpt install_flash_player_9_linux/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/

nspluginwrapper -i ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Close all Firefox instances and restart Iceweasel/Firefox/whatever.

Enjoy all x64 bit uesrs.......

32 bit firefox workaround

I read somewhere that you could just install the 32 bit version of firefox. Is this a good workaround?

There is nothing like, 64 bit adobe flash player.

They haven't released for 64 bit, I guess.

Doesn't seem to work for me...

I've been having issues with Flash on my x64 box (running Ubuntu 8.04 on an Opteron).  Anyway, this guide fails at the point when I'm meant to execute the mv of the file that's been extracted.  The wget works fine, but the unzipped package includes a flashplayer-installer script, not the flashplayer.xpt I'm expecting to find.  When I attempt to execute the flash installer, I get this error.

# ./flashplayer-installer

ERROR: Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
       Adobe Flash Player installer.

 That said I'd really be pleased if I was able to get flash working in Firefox on this box.  Let me know if you're able to get around this.

Easy steps:

Use the steps in terminal window...........

(1) Remove currently installed versions of Flash.

sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree flashplugin-installer gnash gnash-common mozilla-plugin-gnash swfdec-mozilla

(2)Download the 64-bit Flash plugin and extract that file:

wget http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer10/libflashplayer-10.0.45.2.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz && tar xvfz libflashplayer-10.0.45.2.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz

(3)Put the file into /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer64.so or /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer64.so or (or in ~/.mozilla/plugins for a single-user install):

sudo mv libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer64.so

(or)

sudo mv libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer64.so

(4)mk into it.

sudo mkdir /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer

(5)Install the link (60 is the priority, you can use any value 0-100)

sudo update-alternatives –install /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so xulrunner-addons-flashplugin /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer64.so 60

Restart the firefox .. now check youtube.

You might also try

5. /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/x86_64/linux/npconfig -i ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

in case step 5 throws the error 

bash: /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/npconfig: No such file or directory

Both versions of step five threw an error because the file didn't exist.

Probably you don't have nswrapper installed. To fix it just install nswrapper.

the path to adobe ist gone!. there is a new version of flash - 10

 no AMD64 support from adobe. do anyone know a way to install version 10 of flash without using ia32lib, linux32 etc. ?

To install flash player 10 run i386 (this is a command!)

  It will open a new shell that returns arch as i386 instead of x86_64, so the installer doesnt complain.

  Well, I was not able to install a s root, only for my local user.
